1-to-1 Support
Along with our group programmes, we can offer 1-to-1 support, tailored to you.

What is Personal Therapy?
Individual therapy is a one-to-one space where you can talk openly about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with a trained professional. We provide subsidised, online clinical psychology sessions specifically tailored for older adults, delivered by Clinical Psychologists in Training.
Sessions take place online via Zoom and are offered in blocks of 4, 8, 12, or 16 sessions, depending on your needs. You can also book a one-off assessment session to explore your situation and decide what level of support feels right for you.
Is Personal Therapy for You?
Mental wellbeing challenges affect around a quarter of older adults, yet only one in six receives the support they need. Many are offered medication alone, without access to talking therapies.
If you’re experiencing low mood, anxiety, stress, loneliness, or life changes that feel difficult to manage, therapy can help. Untreated mental health difficulties in later life are linked to increased risk of dementia and reduced quality of life.
Importantly, older adults often benefit just as much—if not more—from talking therapies compared to younger individuals.

What is Positive Neuropsychology?
Positive Neuropsychology is a personalised, strengths-based way of understanding and supporting your brain health in later life.
Rather than focusing on diagnosis or deficits, this approach looks at how your brain is functioning now - identifying areas of strength, areas that may benefit from support, and practical ways to maintain and enhance cognitive wellbeing over time. We developed this offer in response to a growing interest from older adults who want clear, individualised guidance about memory, attention, thinking, and overall brain health - without needing a formal diagnosis.
All assessments are carried out by Clinical Psychologists in Training and overseen by a Clinical Psychologist with extensive experience in neuropsychology within NHS settings. We also use this work to support the development of psychology trainees, for whom competence in neuropsychological assessment is a core requirement. This ensures high standards, careful supervision, and thoughtful, ethical practice. Positive Neuropsychology reflects our long-standing belief that understanding how the brain works should be used not only to identify difficulties, but to support wellbeing, confidence, and quality of life in later years.
Is Positive Neuropsychology For You?
Positive Neuropsychology Assessments are suitable for adults aged 65 and over, with no upper age limit.
People come to us for many different reasons, including:
-
Wanting to understand their cognitive strengths and changes
-
Feeling anxious, low, or isolated
-
Concerns about memory, attention, or sleep
-
Planning for the future and wanting to stay mentally well
-
Living with long-term health conditions
-
Wondering whether they may be neuro-atypical
-
Wanting clear, personalised guidance rather than general advice
You do not need a diagnosis, and you do not need to be experiencing significant difficulties to benefit.
What to Expect
This is not a group course. Sessions are delivered one-to-one, allowing flexibility and an individualised approach.
-
Typically 4-5 sessions
-
Each session lasts 1 to 1.5 hours
-
Sessions are arranged at times that work for you
-
Across the sessions, we combine:
-
Cognitive tasks and assessments
-
Questionnaires
-
A supportive, structured conversation about your health, lifestyle, and goals
Benefits
Neuropsychology is particularly helpful in pinpointing specific patterns in how your brain works.General advice such as “do puzzles” or “eat certain foods” can be helpful, but it is often too broad. People benefit far more from evidence based, targeted recommendations that reflect their own cognitive profile, health background, and lifestyle.
By the end of the process, you can expect:
-
A clearer understanding of your cognitive strengths
-
Insight into areas that may benefit from support
-
Practical, personalised strategies to promote brain health
-
Greater confidence in managing changes over time
Cost and Accessibility
We know that neuropsychological assessments are often difficult to access and expensive.
To make this support more widely available, sessions are offered at a 50% subsidised rate of £50 per session.
If you have any questions, or would like to book an initial assessment, please get in touch.

Benefits of Working with Clinical Psychologists in Training

Up to Date and Prepared
Trainee Clinical Psychologists have undergone extensive preparation, through study and clinical work experience, to gain a place on a Clinical Psychology doctorate. They are studying the most current, evidence-based approaches to mental health care, which means that you receive support that is timely and evidence-based.

Small Caseloads and Flexibility
Compared to qualified clinicians, Trainee Clinical Psychologists have small caseloads, enabling them to have plenty of time to plan and reflect on sessions, as well as offering scheduling flexibility for clients.

Supervised Training
All Trainee Clinical Psychologists receive regular supervision from experienced psychologists who are specialists in older adult mental health care. This allows them to reflect on their client work and collaborate to problem-solve or devise treatment plans.
Research that informs our work
We draw on well-established research to guide how our programmes are designed and delivered. The papers below reflect some of the evidence base behind the principles and practices we use, for those who would like to learn more.
