Undergraduate Student Placements
When we decided to start offering undergraduate placements, we wanted to ensure that our placement students were supported to gain the skills and experience they would need to apply for Clinical Psychology training or research roles.

Our founder is an experienced Clinical Psychologist who has supervised Clinical Psychology Trainees and Assistant Psychologists for several years, both in the NHS and for The Mindful Life Group.

Our students bring fresh perspectives and current psychological knowledge, while gaining practical experience in how research and clinical concepts are applied in real life settings.

The work our placement students help us with includes:
-
Stakeholder engagement
-
Co-facilitating group sessions
-
Analysing psychometric tests and report writing
-
Participant support

We offer placement students:

-
Placement students receive supervision and mentoring from a Chartered Clinical Psychologist as well as Clinical Psychologists in Training.
-
Opportunities are provided to take part in relevant training and skills development aligned with clinical psychology training pathways.
-
Students may contribute to ongoing research and service evaluation work where appropriate.
-
Meaningful research contributions are formally recognised, including acknowledgement in dissemination and, where criteria are met, co-authorship on future publications.

Their involvement strengthens our programmes and contributes to the quality of experience we provide to participants.

CLAIRE'S EXPERIENCE ON PLACEMENT
What is your background?
Hi, I’m Claire! I’m a psychology undergraduate student at University of Bath, as well as a trainee yoga teacher. I’ve been practising mindfulness for over five years and it’s something that’s become a really important part of my life.
What made you want to apply for a placement with The Mindful Life Group?
I was really drawn to The Mindful Life Group because of its focus on mindfulness-based interventions and how it shows that something so simple can have such a powerful impact on people’s lives. I also love the organisation’s dedication to supporting older adults, who are often overlooked when it comes to mental health support, despite being a rapidly growing population. Having worked in a care home, and through seeing my grandfather struggle with his mental health and my dad needing more support as he’s gotten older, I felt really motivated to be part of something that provides meaningful support to older adults.

What has your experience been with the group?
My experience has been nothing short of amazing. It is a genuine joy to work here, and if I could, I would stay forever! I really value how invested the team is in your personal and professional development, and how they encourage you to tailor your role to your interests. Through this placement, I have had the opportunity to lead mindfulness sessions and even teach morning yoga classes before our weekly team meetings, which has been fantastic!
What does mindfulness mean to you?
Mindfulness is truly my anchor. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without it. While it’s a simple idea (even if it can be tricky to practise at times), it’s helped me feel more grounded and balanced. I really believe it’s something everyone can benefit from in our fast-paced, modern world!
