Positive Neuropsychology Service
Course Overview
Positive Neuropsychology is a personalised, strengths-based approach to understanding and supporting brain health in later life.

Rather than focusing primarily on diagnosis, impairment, or decline, this approach explores how your brain is functioning now - identifying areas of strength, areas that may benefit from support, and practical ways to maintain and enhance cognitive wellbeing over time. The aim is to help people better understand their thinking, memory, attention, confidence, and day-to-day functioning in a constructive and empowering way.

We developed this service in response to growing interest from older adults seeking clear, individualised guidance about brain health and cognitive wellbeing, without necessarily requiring a formal diagnosis or medical pathway. Many people want reassurance, insight, practical strategies, or a greater understanding of how factors such as stress, sleep, mood, ageing, and lifestyle can affect cognitive functioning.

Assessments are carried out by Clinical Psychologists in Training and closely supervised by a highly experienced Clinical Psychologist with specialist expertise in neuropsychology within NHS settings. This work also supports the development of future psychology professionals, for whom competence in neuropsychological assessment and formulation is a core component of training.

Our model combines professional oversight, evidence-informed practice, and careful ethical supervision to ensure a high-quality and supportive experience. Positive Neuropsychology reflects our long-standing belief that understanding how the brain works should be used not only to identify difficulties, but also to promote confidence, resilience, wellbeing, and quality of life in later years.
